Guests at Mopan River Resort enjoy the finest accommodations offered in Belize. Twelve spacious river-view cabanas (9) and suites (3) with thatched roofs, are situated throughout 10 manicured acres of mature coconut grove, and surrounded by lush tropical gardens and fruit trees. All units have large private verandas, and private bath with double basin vanity and separate tub/shower & toilet compartment. Units are fully screened, and equipped with 24-hour electricity, air conditioning, reading lights, cable TV, ceiling fans, personal safe, mini-bars with complimerntary soft drinks and beer, as well as coffee and tea offerings. Two suites contain a full kitchen, making them suitable for extended holidays. Each cabana and suite accommodates two people, with the exception of one suite which sleeps three.
The hub of activity is the main lodge where guests enjoy daily meals and nightly cocktail gatherings. Close to the lodge is a beautiful swimming pool with cascading waterfall; and our Massage House is adjacent to the pool. We also have a 20 ft. high bird watching tower where guests join the morning "toucan watch" and enjoy panoramic vistas of the surrounding countryside and jungle. An intimate wedding chapel is located near the river, providing a stunning backdrop for memorable marriage, and vow renewal ceremonies.
The property is situated on the north bank of the Mopan River, across from the town of Benque Viejo del Carmen, in the western Cayo District. The resort was designed and constructed to provide guests with adventure-filled days, and comfort-filled evenings in a magnificent tropical setting. Our location affords guests the ultimate in privacy, as it can only be reached by our private ferry or boat; yet due to our proximity to the main roads, it is more convenient, less time-consuming, and more comfortable to visit all the wonderful sites in the region.
Cayo is the largest and most diverse area in Belize. Encompassing over 2000 square miles, it begins with green, rolling hiolls in the north, and gradually builds to the crest of the Maya Mountains in the south. This district contains a major portion of the more than 600 identified Mayan ruins in Belize, the most outstanding of which are within easy reach of Mopan River Resort. Also close at hand are the famous ruins of Tikal, across the border in Guatemala; one of the unforgettable adventure outings enjoyed by the resort's guests. Tikal is just one and a half hour's drive from here.
Cayo is also home to a number of caves; both dry caves, filled with artifacts, and river caves that are navigated by canoe or inner tubes. Our scenic river provides some of the country's best kayaking, and the river habitat possesses a wealth of bird species and wildlife.
Mopan River Resort is fully staffed with a dedicated crew of hard working Belizeans, self-driven and well trained--many having been with the property since it opened in 1999. In addition to the resort structures, the property also contains a luxurious 3500 sq. ft. owner's residence, built in the colonial style, with high ceilings and hardwood floors. A caretaker's house and manager's residence are also on site. Recent acquisition of an additional 78 acres of adjacent, undeveloped land provide extensive bird and wildlife habitat, as well as nature trails full of medicinal plants.

A house lot in the town across the river, which is paved, gated, has a small storage house with toilet. Gated area has sufficient parking for 7-8 vehicles. Resort owns 2 Toyota 15 passenger vans (2006 model), 1 Toyota 16 passenger van (2006); a 4 WD Kia dual cab truck modified with 6 seats in rear under canopy; Suzuki 4WD Vitara (1997).
